THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "NATIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS FROM THE WESTERN BALKANS IN REPRESENTATION ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND ABUSE OF DISCRIMINATION"

Representatives of the Ombudsman participated in a two-day event, a conference of ombudsmen, anti-discrimination commissions, as well as other relevant bodies and institutions working in the field of human rights titled "National Human Rights Institutions from the Western Balkans in advocating for human rights and Prohibition of Discrimination "organized by the Council of Europe and the European Commission on 29 and 30 November in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The International Conference addressed several issues, including the suppression of hate speech, intolerance, prejudice and all forms of discrimination, present in the region, and which pose a serious threat to the development and degree of democracy in these countries. Although these are many, speaks, there is no adequate investigation and court decisions that do not result in sanctions. In this regard, the cooperation of the national human rights institutions with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the courts was emphasized as imminent and very important.

The topic of the conference was the cooperation of the National human rights institutions with the NGOs, the lobbying for human rights with a focus on the governmental bodies, etc. The conference also promoted the Council of Europe's material for combating discrimination.

The conference was attended by representatives from all countries in the Western Balkan region, and the Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Suzana Saliu in her presentation addressed the work of the Ombudsman Office and the new competences, she also referred to the way the country dealt with the refugee and migrant crisis. She noted that the Ombudsman's Office plays a very important role in the protection of the rights of refugees and migrants, especially in the asylum applications in the Republic of Macedonia .
