TRAINIG PROGRAME FOR THE OMBUDSMAN OFFICE PERSONNEL ON THEME: IDENTIFICATION AND PROCEEDING ON CASES OF DISCRIMINATION

What and which types of discrimination exist? On which base can somebody be discriminated and how to recognize it?

Those were just one part of dilemmas which through a training program titled: Identification and Proceeding on Cases of Discrimination tried to settle the Ombudsman Office personnel. The training which was held on 21-24 April 2008 was part of the common projects conducted by the Ombudsman Office with support of the OSCE Mission in Skopje and Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

“Macedonia has no general law for protection from discrimination which makes difficult proceeding on such cases although only bringing of such law is not enough because other mechanism for protection should be defined too.” – said among the other the Ombudsman Mr. Ixhet Memeti. According to Memeti there is a need for strengthening of the instruments for protection from discrimination which will help citizens in cases of discrimination.

About the Macedonian legal frame and proceedings of the Ombudsman Office spoke Mr. Mag. Dragi Celevski, Deputy Ombudsman and the training was performed by representative of the Austrian Ombudsman Office D-r Patricia Heindel and representatives of the Slovenian Ombudsman Office Mr. Vernik Bostjan and Ms. Manca Setinc.
