END OF THE PROJECT: “THE OMBUDSMAN IN PROTECTION OF CONVICTED PERSONS RIGHTS”

By visit of the Prison “Idrizovo” on 31-st of October has ended the project “The Ombudsman in Protection of Convicted Persons Rights” which in the period of September – October was realized by the Ombudsman Office and the OSCE Mission in Macedonia.
In the frame of this project was visited Prisons in Strumica and Gevgelija; Punitive-Correctional Institution of open type in Struga and Prison in Ohrid; prisons in Prilep and Bitola; Punitive-Correctional Institution in Stip; Prisons in Tetovo and Skopje; Open Department in Kriva Palanka and Prison Idrizovo. During the visits representatives from the Ombudsman Office distributed brochures with several regulations: European Convention against Torture, Inhuman or Degradation Proceeding or Punishment, European Prison Regulations, Law on Perform of Sanctions, Law on the Ombudsman and the Rulebook of the Ombudsman.   
Also convicted persons got special sheets with complaint form which can be submitted to the Ombudsman. With aim to make access to the Ombudsman easier representatives of the Ombudsman Office has putted metal boxes in every Punitive-Correctional Institution in which convicted persons can put their complaints. It is foreseen representatives of the Ombudsman Office to take complaints from those boxes once or twice a month so they can proceed on the complaints.
Distributed brochures were printed on Macedonian, Albanian and Roma language. In the Punitive-Correctional Institutions was given totally 345 brochures on Macedonian, 220 on Albanian and 210 brochures on Roma language.
