THE OMBUDSMAN MR. IXHET MEMETI ATTENDED THE 28TH STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AGENCY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION – FRA, IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA 13 December 2017

THE OMBUDSMAN MR. IXHET MEMETI ATTENDED THE 28TH STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AGENCY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION – FRA, IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA

The Ombudsman Mr. Idjet Memeti, attended for the first time the Steering Committee meeting of the Fundamental Rights Agency of the European Union, FRA, in capacity of an observer. The two-day meeting took place on December 13th and 14th in Vienna.

During the event, Mr. Memeti met with representatives of the Agency's management, Mr. Ioannis Dimitrakopoulos, Head of the Unit for Equality and Rights of Citizens and Mr. Andreas Acardo, Head of the Agency's Directorate's Office, and was acquainted with the activities of the FRA in the field of human rights and freedoms. At a separate meeting with the Director of the Agency, Mr. Michael Oflaerti, they agreed on future activities regarding the inclusion of the Republic of Macedonia in the work of the Agency, as well as on Mr. Oflaerti visit to the country in the second half of 2018.
The Ombudsman Mr. Memeti expressed gratitude for giving the Republic of Macedonia the honor to become the first country-observer from the Western Balkans, but even more, he expressed his honor for being chosen to perform this extremely important role for the country.

In the further course of the talks, he stressed that it is of utmost importance for the country to extend the activities of the FRA to the territory of the Republic of Macedonia and thus raise numerous human rights issues, at the same time highlighting that as a country and institution we have a particular interest in focusing the work of the Agency on the rights of the child in all areas of their life.

The two-day meeting was attended by representatives of all EU Member States and covered the work of the Agency in 2017, but also the future activities envisaged for 2018, as well as for 2018 - 2022.
