THE 10TH MEETING OF THE AOM MEMBER COUNTRIES ENDED WITH ADOPTION OF THE SKOPJE DECLARATION AND ELECTION OF NEW MEMBERS OF THE MANAGEMENT BODIES

The 10th jubilee meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen ended on 1 June in Skopje, with adoption of the so-called Skopje Declaration and election of the new members of the management bodies. The theme of this meeting was “The Ombudsman as a protector of the social, cultural and environmental rights”.

The Representatives of the member states of the Association shared their experiences in the area of the social and cultural rights of vulnerable categories of citizens. On the last day, they discussed how the Ombudsman can help the citizens in view of the right to safe, clean and healthy environment.

The General Assembly of the AOM was held on the last day when new members of the management bodies were elected.  The Greek Ombudsman, Mr. Andreas I. Pottakis was elected as a new president of the AOM. The first vice-president for the upcoming period will be the Catalan Ombudsman, Mr. Francisco M.Fernandez Marugan while Ms. Erinda Ballanca, the People's Advocate of Albania will be the new second vice-president. The following countries are members of the management board of the AOM: Republic of Macedonia, Republic of France, Israel, Palestine, Cyprus, Tunisia and Slovenia. It was agreed that the Secretariat and the treasury will be taken over by the Ombudsman Office in Malta.
